Biography
Andrew’s recent plays include Borderland (national tour for 7:84 Theatre Company, Scotland), Images of Elsewhere, and The Hidden Winter (rehearsed reading at the Soho Theatre, London). His short play War on Muckle Roe was staged in 2004 by 7:84 at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, as part of a collection of twelve new short plays in response to the global war on terror. Andrew is currently working on a new drama, People of the City, being developed with support from a short-term attachment programme by the Soho Theatre.
Andrew is also a prolific comedy writer. His farce Shamlet was a sell-out show at the Edinburgh fringe festival 2003, and ran again in 2006 at the King’s Head Theatre, London. He wrote and performed in Christie & Doyle’s Axis of Evil (with Bridget Christie) at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2005. He was also a principal writer on the sketch show Pop Tarts, which enjoyed a total sell-out run at the Pleasance Courtyard during the 2003 festival. He has written for NewsRevue, which holds the Guinness world record for longest running live comedy show. His recent sitcom script Silver Spoons was optioned for development by DLT Entertainment Ltd.
Andrew has performed as a stand-up comedian at numerous venues throughout the UK, including The Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh, the Frog and Bucket in Manchester, XS Malarkey in Manchester, and the Canal Café Theatre in London.
Andrew has a D.Phil. in English Literature from Oxford University, and was a part-time lecturer there between 2001 and 2004. His research, based on Shakespeare and his contemporaries, was supported with a full scholarship from the Arts and Humanities Research Board.
